Nederlandsch-Indische Bierbrouwerijen was initially established in Medan in 1929, with a brewery in Surabaya. The Company's seat was moved to Surabaya in 1936 and in that same year Heineken NV became a major shareholder. In 1951, the Company’s name was changed to Heineken's Nederlandsch-Indische Bierbrouwerijen Maatschappij NV. In 1972 a new brewery was constructed in Tangerang.After changing its name several times, the Company went public in 1981 and adopted a new name, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia, and moved its seat from Surabaya to Jakarta. Its shares are now traded on the Indonesian Stock Exchange.Today, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk is the leading beer manufacturer in Indonesia.
