THE ALPHA JUSTICE PROJECT: There are 2,658 exonerations listed since 1989. Only 19 of the exonerees are women. Even though the number of crimes committed by women remains constant, the number of women in prison grows every year. In fact there is a 400% increase in the amount of women in prison. As of 2018 there were 219,000 women in prison. The 2020 estimate is 231,000, according to the Prison Policy Group www.prisonpolicy.org. Prosecutors accused Baumer of shaking the baby. Her attorney never got a second medical opinion. Baumer was exonerated during her second trial when pediatric experts were brought in who testified the little boy had Sinus Thrombosis, a form of childhood stroke that was mistaken for Shaken Baby Syndrome. She was released after three years in prison. There was never a crime to begin with.In 2004, 21-year old Candace Anderson was in a serious car accident that killed her fiancé.
