At Camp Phoenix, we believe:Community healing begins with radical joy.Nature spaces are ideal locations for fostering joy, connection and mindful healing.Environmental, racial and social justice cannot be meaningfully separated.Youth are naturally connected to nature.We understand that our youth are the solution to our current environmental crises and our role is not to educate them in service of environmental interests, but rather to create joyful spaces of reconnection, healing, community and self-development to unleash their efficacy to affect the change they want to see in their environment and in their communities.Camp Phoenix brings love, joy, and opportunity to Oakland youth of all genders from low-income communities of color. Through mindful outdoor discovery, environmental education, social emotional learning and personal growth, we empower youth to develop their leadership by deepening their sense of community agency and advocacy. Our 3-week, overnight summer immersion program blends the joyful fun of sleepaway camp with exploratory, culturally relevant outdoor environmental learning to nurture middle-school students into the next school year and well beyond.
