Food Production - San Casciano In Val di Pesa, Toscana, Italy
The farm consists in 26 hectares (64 acres) of which 13,5 (33 acres) dedicated to wine production and 4,5 (11 acres) to olive oil. It is situated in the heart of Chianti Classico between San Casciano in val di Pesa an Mercatale, one of the best location to produce this excellent wine. The vineyards have been planted between 1978 and 1995 and 8,5 hectares (21 acres) have been qualified for the most exclusive wine of this area, the Chianti Classico. The area has smooth hills with a moderate content of clay and rich in structure. The different exposure of our vineyards allows to produce grapes with a high organ electric complexity, a necessary precondition to obtain excellent wines. The vine types cultivated in the farm are Sangiovese (the most important), Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These vine types are cultivated either a cordon or "Guyot" with a density of 3.500 – 5.000 plants per hectare (1.400 – 2.000 per acre) according to vine type and the area.
