Mission: As the only Prepared and Perishable Food Rescue Program in NE Ohio, Community Harvest is now a "link" for over 90 local restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, farmers, cafeterias, and hospital kitchens to donate their unused and healthy food. This food is then delivered in a 14' refrigerated box truck at no cost to 32 community-based organizations that run hot meal programs and soup kitchens to alleviate hunger. We are an essential partner for the agencies who receive food from us, because many of them could not afford to purchase food for their hot meal programs otherwise.History and When Formed: Community Harvest was created through the combined and diligent efforts of the members of the Stark County Hunger Task Force, the Tri-County Restaurant Association and other concerned members of the community. Their focus was to increase the involvement of the restaurant and food service industry by collecting excess prepared and perishable food and donating it to community groups serving the homeless and the hungry. Our inception began in October 1989, after the Ohio Code was revised to include 2305.37 and 2305.38. These codes protect food donors and volunteers from liability. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
