EDGSA-Engineering Diversity Graduate Student Association Details
Students from all over the world come to the University of Pittsburgh to earn advanced degrees. However, there was a noticeable lack of an established community specifically for underrepresented minority graduate students at the School of Engineering. Students were yearning for that community. The Engineering Diversity Graduate Students Association (EDGSA) was born from that need. We have established a community that allows underrepresented minority students to be validated. Here, they can experience cultural familiarity, express themselves in an environment where they are accepted, and advocate for their communities. We provide this through weekly study sessions/writing sessions, monthly social events, biannual professional development workshops, and recruitment trips. The EDGSA is committed to fostering and maintaining a community for minority graduate engineering students. There is still much work to be done, many places for us to go. And we will do it together.
