HANDA Rehabilitation & Welfare Association (HANDA) was established in 1996, as a grassroot NGO of the people affected by leprosy in China. Since its establishment, HANDA has carried out comprehensive leprosy rehabilitation projects mainly on empowerment and participation of people affected by leprosy which enabled people to recognize their self value. Mission: To promote the dignity and respect of people affected by leprosy Vision: For a world without stigma, but equality. Main Projects: Social-psychological rehabilitation Improve the social understanding towards leprosy, promote dignity and respect of people affected by leprosy so that they can reintegrate back into the community. Mobile Prosthesis Workshop HANDA owns a Mobile Prosthesis Workshop. This mobile workshop provides complete facilities for the production of prosthesis. Help people to stand up again and to be able to live a dignified life. Mobile Eye Sight Saving Project In cooperation with the Guangzhou Aier ophthalmic hospital, HANDA sends its operating vehicle to perform cataract surgery in remote mountainous areas. This not only helps to restore sight to people who are visually impaired but also trains people affected by leprosy in self-care. Community Development Project HANDA's Community Development Project encourages people affected by leprosy to earn their own living through self-support projects in order to improve the village's economic conditions. This also helps to create a harmonious and happy village for people affected by leprosy. Scholarship Project HANDA's Scholarship Project strives to financially support people affected by leprosy and their children so that they can have access to education and enhance their ability to support themselves as well as integrate into society in the future.
