Khanya - African Institute for Community Driven Development (Khanya-aicdd) is a Not for Profit Organization (Public Benefit Organisation status) based in Johannesburg, South Africa.We work in action-learning processes linking government, civil society, business and communities; providing advice, facilitation, action research, implementation, sharing of experience and training. Since 1998 we have pioneered innovations in:Sustainable livelihoods approaches (probably with most expertise in Africa in such approaches); Local and community based economic development (LED/CBED); Community Based Enterprise Support Systems (CBESS) Development planning – including community based development planning; Rethinking governance – including participatory approaches, community-based services; Food security, agriculture and sustainable utilization of natural resources, especially land and water; Our work has been in over 30 countries and has been recognised internationally by organisations including Univ of Sussex, DFID, OECD, World Bank, EU, GTZ, UNDP, and UN.Khanya's innovative economic and social community based approaches have led to major policy changes in South Africa, Botswana, Uganda and Lesotho. These include national policy on community development (Botswana and South Africa); community based planning methodologies (South Africa, Botswana and Uganda).
