Food Production - Monteforte d'Alpone, Veneto, Italy
Since 1890, the Tessari family has been making wine at its La CAPPUCCINA estate at Costalunga di Monteforte d'Alpone, in the Soave D.O.C. wine zone, in the eastern countryside of Verona. The property takes its name from the tastefully restored 16th century chapel, annexed to Villa Buri-Tessari – where Capuchin friars once worshipped – whose silhouette is now the company's logo. The vine grow lush amongst black lavic basalt rocks on the 105 acres of vineyards where the grapes slowly mature. We are for Biodiversity, Eco-Sustainability and Environmental Protection: we are for a positive farming that protects our land and makes it alive as our wines. We focus on the potentiality of the Garganega grape, the "progenitress" of Soave which here dominates the vineyards (at about 70%), but also on different grape such as Trebbiano di Soave, Sauvignon and then also red varieties, once cultivated, such as Corvina, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carménère (an ancient clone of Cabernet Franc) and Oseléta (a rare local and ancient variety). We take care of our environment from different points of view:- 50% of energy needs are supplied by photovoltaic panels;- Fertilization and fungicides are done by organic and natural substances ;- Reduced use of sulfur dioxide at the minimum quantity to avoid any oxidative process;- A state-of-the-art filtration system with no additives and inert substances;- Phytodepuration of waste water with eco-compatible technologies;- Storing of the bottled wine in the naturally conditioned underground cellar;- Estate's brochure printed with all paper recycling;- Saving on CO2 emissions thanks to the use of lighter bottles (at least 20%);- Full recycling cycle (glass, plastics and paper). This is our contribution for the protection of the environment, our natural and human heritage.
