Magdalene JCR exists to represent the interests of undergraduate students at Magdalene. We host various social events throughout the year, provide student services, and advocate for better student facilities and welfare provision. To find out more about each member of the JCR Committee and their role, take a look at the JCR Committee page. The JCR Committee is elected in the latter half of Michaelmas Term, and hold their position for one full calendar year, beginning on the 1st January following their election. Each JCR Officer has their own particular focus, but they will also help to make general decisions and run whole-JCR events. The JCR is involved in so many aspects of College life, but here is a brief run-down of just some of the things we do at Magdalene. In terms of events, the JCR runs four bops (fancy dress parties) throughout the year, along with various other social events throughout the year, such as karaoke nights and summer barbecues. Six times times each term we host Superhalls - better than usual Formal Hall dinners with pre- and post-drinks hosted by the JCR. We also organise the College's annual Freshers Week! Our Welfare Team are always available for a friendly chat and can give useful information about other welfare services that are available at Magdalene and in Cambridge more generally. Meanwhile, our advocacy of equal opportunities helps to ensure that Magdalene is a welcoming place to everyone! We maintain punts for student use and also organise the annual room ballot in which all current students select the accommodation for the next year. For prospective applicants, our Access Team run a range of events throughout the year - from open days to residential visits - and can be contacted for advice and information about applying to Magdalene.
