Nottingham Buddhist Society was formally established as a society under the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus on the 11th November 2009. The idea of Nottingham Buddhist Society stemmed from a group of Buddhist youth with a passion to provide a platform for their fellow university mates to learn and benefit from the teachings of the Buddha. The drive of catering to those who wish to understand more, or to increase their knowledge in Buddhism has been passed down and that has now become the main vision of this society; to provide a Buddhist education. Our objectives are:1. To deepen the member's knowledge about the Dhamma.2. To instil Buddhist values and cultureAs the basis of our society is education, our motto is, "Educating for a change".We live by our core values of: Compassion, Courage, Peace. This can be seen through our consistent selfless community service such as feeding the homless (Compassion), the courage of letting go of attachments [our materialistic and worldly desires] and the courage to embrace tough times, embracing and understanding uncertainties [overcoming difficulties in university] (Courage), and the cultivation of Nibbana [achieving inner peace] through mindfulness and meditation practices, such as our weekly group meditation practices and our annual full-day outdoor meditation retreat (Peace). The colour yellow is the official colour of our society as it represents light. With the light of wisdom, it dispels the darkness of ignorance.
