The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding ("OB Peacebuilding" or the "Center") inspires and challenges leaders in divided societies to work together to build peace. Beginning with a catalytic wilderness expedition that encourages participants to push their limits and move beyond their comfort zones, OB Peacebuilding works with local partners to identify influential individuals in different sectors and design programs that encourage compassionate leadership and teamwork; contribute to peacebuilding; and foster respect and trust among individuals, communities, and with the environment. The expedition is followed up with activities that build on the outcomes achieved on the expedition. In 2014, OB Peacebuilding is implementing its 6th year of programming with next generation leaders from Israel and Palestine and delivering its biannual Practicum on Experiential Peacebuilding, an expedition experience for professionals and graduate students in the field of conflict resolutions and peacebuilding, in partnership with Costa Rica Outward Bound, the University of Peace in Costa Rica and Outward Bound Ecuador. This year, the Center is also exploring new program areas in the Balkans, Myanmar, and Rwanda in order to support the leadership capacity of young people committed to building peace in their communities. Alums of OB Peacebuilding programs testify to an enhanced sense of themselves as leaders and increased sense of trust with, and compassion for, the "other."
