Philanthropy - New York, New York, United States
Special Ops NYC is a student run organization founded by Jake Hulsh in 2016. Special Ops is driven by a profound desire to create social change in the City that raised each and every member of our volunteer force. Our six volunteers operate by delivering care packages of food and gently worn clothing donations to the patrons of shelters and soup kitchens throughout New York City. Through the crowd-sourcing platform, GoFundMe and our network of private investors, Special Ops NYC raised over $6,000 in capital to fund our mission's operating costs and expenses. Special Ops NYC worked closely with New York University in order to collect donations of gently used clothing. On each floor of an apartment style dormitory, empty boxes with our logo and a brief message were planted. Within days, we collected 22 boxes of clothing donations that supported our mission for approximately two months. Special Ops NYC formed close relationships with homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and women's shelters to deliver our packages. We utilized the strong patron base of these established organizations in order to deliver our care packages. As a undergraduate student within Tulane University's Taylor Program for Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SISE), Jake Hulsh was able to develop Special Ops NYC's business model as well create a positive work environment for his staff members and volunteers. The volunteer force played a critical role in the development and daily operations of Special Ops NYC. As a student run organization, each and every volunteer gained valuable learning experiences which enhance their skills to adapt to the many obstacles present in the non-profit business sector.
