In the late 1970's, a group of forward-thinking parishioners of St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Baton Rouge envisioned a full-service retirement community that would be seen as the first choice for active, successful aging. Further positioning St. James Place as a leader in senior living, the installation of campus-wide generators was completed in 2012 giving St. James Place the ability to remain fully operational in the event of a power outage.
