Although GraphQL queries provide users with the exact data they need, servers and databases can still be inundated with many requests in a short period of time. Current GraphQL caching solutions, namely those that come with Apollo’s GraphQL server, are limited as they only provide users with an on and off switch to enable caching. The data gets cached after the first request, or not at all. If users request certain information infrequently, the benefits of caching are marginal. As such, we allow users to prevent caching until performance optimization is worth the additional space. Allowing users to define parameters that prevent caching until request thresholds are reached gives them more control over when data gets stored. By delaying caching until these thresholds are met, we effectively save server memory, only storing data users frequently access. Apollo provides users with a great deal of functionality, but often it provides them with significantly more than they need. This results in files being much larger than necessary, ultimately slowing down one’s application. The solution is a package that requires minimal dependencies and keeps file sizes low allowing applications to run with ease. CacheflowQL solves all of these issues with a lightweight, easy to use NPM package. With a simple npm install and less than ten lines of code, users can begin caching their data. Cacheflowql allows users to cache their data locally or on a redis store. And our packages complex algorithms provide developers deep insights into their GraphQL queries and metrics about cached data, allowing for effective runtime and query analysis.
