Making Changes is an addiction recovery programme designed and delivered by those with lived experience of addiction and recovery. The programme provides a foundation for long-term transformation away from alcohol and substance abuse in a way that re-shapes the way we live our lives so that we don't want to use either, let alone need to.Making Changes is evidence based, bringing together components of various recovery techniques as well as new principles and guidelines to follow. Our approach is based on the simple belief that:Addiction - we are not responsibleRecovery - we are responsibleIt takes time to get to the point of being responsible over our recovery and new way of life - this is why we gradually build up the skills and confidence this requires. We help people build up their self-esteem, work on the shame and guilt by encouraging self-care, self-forgiveness and self-compassion - all things we typically never applied to ourselves. The programme teaches us about integrity, we learn how to become ore honest - with ourselves and those around us.And one of the most important things we teach is how to feel peace through acceptance - if we can achieve this, we can be happy. Those of us facing problems caused by addiction deserve to be heard, deserve to be helped, deserve to be happy and deserve to live.
